Before creating an application, talk to your council's planner to establish if a planning permit is required, and to ensure that what you want to do on the land is not prohibited.
If a proposal is prohibited, the application will be refused.
If a permit is required, obtain a copy of the relevant council planning scheme used by your council to assess the application. Ask the planner if your council is likely to support the proposal and discuss any changes that might be necessary to submit an acceptable proposal.
Where the Minister for Planning is the Responsible Authority, you need to contact the relevant Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) office to arrange a pre-application meeting. Note: In most circumstances, the local council is the Responsible Authority. However in some circumstances the Minister for Planning is the Responsible Authority.
